CNU Jewish Studies Colloquium – Nov 11. 2026

We will meet on Nov. 11^th at 9am at CNU’s beautiful Mary M. Torggler Fine Arts Center for a workshop led by Dr. Randi Rashkover, who is the Nathan and Sofia Gumenick Chair of Judaic Studies at William & Mary. 

Dr. Rashkover  will be discussing her work on the topic “Judaism, Jews and Continuity: A Philosophical Perspective.” 

“Judaism, Jews and Continuity: A Philosophical Perspective.”

For decades, the question of Judaism’s continuity and its conditions has been delegated to the work of historians, sociologists and anthropologists. Less common are philosophical analyses of the conditions of Judaism’s continuity that reference the importance of the validity, rationality and grounds of obligation of Jewish ideas and practices. In her lecture, Professor Rashkover will enter into conversation with the work of Yosef Yerushalmi, Mordecai Kaplan and Arnie Eisen in order to propose a new account of the philosophical conditions of Judaism’s continuity.
