Sisterhood News

July-August 2026

Greetings from Sisterhood!

I want to let the congregation know about our partnership with the Gemilut Chasadim Committee.  A small group meets a few times a year at the Rodef Sholom Kitchen and makes food that is put into our freezer.  If anyone needs a meal due to surgery, illness, Shiva, or whatever need you may have, please let the office know.  If you are unable to come and pick up the food, do let Radie know and a volunteer will be found to bring you the meal.  Rodef Sholom is a community and as such we assist each other in times of need.  If you are interested in being part of this Mitzvah please let Rosanne Stupar or myself know and you can help cook or deliver food if needed. Text Rosanne at 757-536-1595 or me Beth Arager at 757-869-8546. Our next date for cooking is Tuesday July 14th, we welcome your participation.

The Sisterhood Committee met and we are working on programming for the upcoming year 5786-5787 or if you prefer, 2026-2027.   Our first get-together will be August 19 at Port Warwick. If some of you remember, we met last year for an evening of conversation and we enjoyed the music from the bandstand. Please bring something to sit on and an item of food to share; drinks will be provided. If it rains, August 26th will be our rain date. Also please mark your calendars for Mead Making September 28th at 6:00p.m. This will be a joint program with Men’s Club. Weather permitting, we will be able to meet in our Sukkah as we learn the history of mead making with instructions.  Afterwards we will be able to take home a gallon for our consumption. This is a charged event at $70.00 per gallon of Mead, one or two people, first come first served.  Deadline is August 9th with prepayment. Due to the nature of this program, we will be requiring payment up front. RSVP to Danile Spokony: lspokony@aol.com . She will accept your check made out to Sisterhood or to pay by credit cards there will be a link from Synagogue.

Finally on July 18th the Sisterhood Committe is sponsoring lunch in Honor of our member Shoshana Marziano who was elected Administrative Secretary in Women’s League!  We are quite proud of her dedication to Rodef Sholom Temple wearing varied hats and representing us in Women’s League.  Please join us on the 18th and if you desire to contibute to this meal, we will not turn you down.  And as always we look for sponsorships for: Minyan Breakfast, Friday night Oneg, and Saturday Kiddush lunch, which does help defray our costs because sharing a meal together brings us closer together.
