Social Action

The mission of Rodef Sholom’s Social Action Committee is to make Judaism’s commitment to the principles of Tikkun Olam an integral part of everyday life within the congregation. We connect with each other through social action. The committee organizes projects and events that educate the congregation and provide meaningful experiences through which we can repair our world on many levels.

🔮Your Voice, Our Future
If you have not yet done so, please participate in this  two-minute, 3-question survey  to share your valuable insights, aspirations, and priorities, which will guide RST’s Social Action Committee as we strive to create a more inclusive, compassionate, and socially conscious community. Thanks to those who already participated!

🎭 Purim Tzedakah Drive
Attend RST’s Saturday, March 24 Purim Program, and bring your checkbook or spare change. The mitzvah of Matanot L’Evyonim (gifts to the poor) is one of the central mitzvot on Purim. At our Megillah reading on Saturday night, we will collect tzedakah to give to the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank.

🛒 JFS Requests Volunteers & Passover Food
Jewish Family Services needs your help! Drop off Passover donations at RST or the UJCVP or donate your time putting together or delivering gift bags. The Passover items do not need to be Kosher for Passover. See below for more information and thanks in advance for your support.

🌱  Countdown To Change!
Tired of single-use plastic cutlery? Starting the weekend of March 22, we are moving to washable utensils! Use our designated soaking station for our washable utensils. Your effort in returning them after use makes a world of difference and will make Donald’s job of washing them much easier.

🧼🧴Toiletries Donations Requested
Anytime you travel or run across travel-sized toiletries, please collect them to drop off outside the RST office or pass them along to Elaine Abrams. We are collecting toiletries  (shampoo, soaps, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, deodorants, etc,) to donate to the homeless, those experiencing housing insecurity, and others in need. The Social Action Committee is continuing this mitzvah, which was led by Stan Glasofer, of blessed memory.
